“The will of God is for you and me to give our lives urgently and recklessly to making the gospel and the glory of God known among all peoples, particularly those who have never even heard of Jesus.” –David Platt from Radical.
I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t have said it better myself. Jesus has commanded all of us to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), but somewhere along the way, we as Christians began to mold and twist that statement to fit our own needs. Move to Africa to spread the word? Sell all I have and give to the poor? No way—that’s not for me. God only calls a few people to do that sort of thing, right? Wrong! We are all commanded to spread the word and love of Christ.
Now, our callings may look a little bit different. From the time I was in the 8th grade, I felt God would call me to different places around the world to be obedient to His command. Basically, I felt called to be a full-time missionary (the word still sounds so sweet to my ears!) You can imagine the doubts that developed upon realizing the man God provided for me to marry felt a bit of a different calling! Joseph knows that God has blessed him with the opportunities to go to school and become an electrical engineer so that he can minister through his lay-position. World travelling missionary and working husband… How exactly is that supposed to work?
Over the past few months, God has been revealing this very thing to us! He has shown us where he is calling us and unveiled his plan for our seemingly different callings to fit perfectly together. We have surrendered to His perfect will for us and are excited to see God work everything out in His timing and for His glory. Join us over the next few months as we pray for wisdom and guidance to continue on this journey of being obedient to God’s command and following God’s callings on our life together!
